 Hey, guys! So my about me isn't showing up on the sidebar of the blog, and it is glitching on my end when I try to make it appear or change any settings. So! I will put it here. 

 

 I just wanted to say how interesting of an experience it was that I focused on modern significances for the Iroquois Sky Woman myth. I will admit that at first I wanted to focus on modern significance for my part in the project because I love the Pokémon Torterra, which is a reference to the concept of a World Turtle. However, it led me down a rabbit hole of research on how the idea of a turtle or a creature holding the earth was such a common concept in creation myths! It's crazy to me how creative myths are in how they explain different concepts. In the case of the world turtle, there's the idea that it makes the earth a living being and explains unpredictable weather and natural disasters as caused by the moving turtle. I also went down a research hole of female characters in media who were similar to the Sky Woman, as in powerful female figures who were slighted by different men in their lives despite their powerful influence or abilities or still had to fit gender stereot...

  My group's myth was the Iroquois Sky Woman myth, which is a creation myth. It was really interesting to have studied a myth that I had no prior knowledge about and learning about creation myths in general was an insightful experience. I loved doing my own research outside the myth book to learn more about the historical and cultural context of the myth and its implications on the values of the Iroquois tribe. I also noticed through my research that because the myth is spread through generations through oral tradition, there were differing details online depending on the source and who was telling the story along with different interpretations. I didn't realize how important it was to keep the knowledge of the myth alive for cultural reasons!      Compared to my myth, which has a modern setting and explains the modern concept of meme culture, the experience of creating my myth and studying the Sky Woman myth was very different.
